Established in 2012 as a counterpoint to mainstream art fairs, over the years, POPPOSITIONS has grown into the leading alternative market for contemporary art. From April 19 to 22, 2018, POPPOSITIONS presents its 7th edition, In Watermelon Sugar, during the week of Art Brussels. The title of this year’s edition, In Watermelon Sugar, has been borrowed from the eponymous post-apocalyptic novel by Richard Brautigan, published in 1968. The book is set in the aftermath of a fallen civilisation and focuses on a centrally organised commune that makes use of tools and objects made from watermelon sugar. For the second year, Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk, curator and writer at The Office for Curating (NL), will be artistic director. ––– PARTICIPANTS Alta Art Space (Rotterdam, NL / Malmö, SE) Artist-run space Angelica Falkeling (b. 1988, Sweden) Arcade (London, UK) Gallery Chiara Camoni (b. 1974, Italy) www./ ArchiRAAR (Brussels, BE) Gallery Caroline Le Mehauté (b. 1982, France) billytown (The Hague, NL) Artist-run gallery Prosper Desmet (b. 1984, France) Chez Mohamed (Asnières, FR / Taroudant, MA) Gallery John Miserendino (b. 1980, United States of America) DIENSTGEBÄUDE Art Space Zurich (Zurich, CH) Artist-run space Brigham Baker (b. 1989, United States of America) Display (Berlin, DE) Space for art and curatorial practices Chloé Delarue (b. 1986, France) EKKM / Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (Tallinn, EE) Non-profit Eléonore de Montesquiou (b. 1970, France / Estonia) Formato Comodo (Madrid, ES) Gallery Joost Krijnen (b. 1983, The Netherlands) Horizont Galéria (Budapest, HU) Gallery Nimova Projeckt (Veronika Romhány) (b. 1987, Hungary) Josédelafuente (Santander, ES) Gallery Bernice Nauta (b. 1991, The Netherlands) Kunsthalle Tropical (Piz Uter, CH & F905, IS) Non-profit Mars Alive (b. 1975) Laagencia (Bogotá, CO) Office for artistic projects Santiago Pinyol (b. 1982, Colombia) LAMART Offspace (Antwerp, BE) Project space Féline Minne (b. 1990, United Kingdom) LEMOW (Paris, FR) Gallery Anaïs Chabeur (b. 1992, France) Лофт Проект ЭТАЖИ - Loft Project Etagi (Saint-Petersburg, RU) Gallery Johanna Van Overmeir (b. 1983, Belgium) MAMA (Rotterdam, NL) Platform for visual culture Mat Do (b. 1982, United Kingdom) narrative projects (London, UK) Gallery Carlos Noronha Feio (b. 1981, Portugal) PODIUM (Oslo, NO) Artist-run space Miriam Hansen (b. 1988, Norway) Rib (Rotterdam, NL) Art space Sam Basu (b. 1967, United Kingdom) Suns & Stars Exhibitions (Amsterdam, NL) Project space Andrea Karch (b. 1990, Germany) & Babette Kleijn (b. 1978, The Netherlands) SUPER DEALS (Brussels, BE) Project room and artist residency Dome Wood (b. 1974, Australia) Syndkt (Cologne, DE) Platform for exhibitions, events and publications Alex Reynolds (b. 1978, Spain) Tintype (London, UK) Gallery Jennet Thomas (b. 1963, United Kingdom) Ventilator (Tel Aviv, IL) Nomadic exhibition space Ishai Shapira Kalter (b. 1986, Israel) VITRINE (Basel, CH/London, UK) Gallery Charlie Godet Thomas (b. 1985, United Kingdom) Vleeshal (Middelburg, NL) Center for Contemporary Art Andreas Arndt (b. 1983, Sweden) Wil Aballe Art Projects - WAAP (Vancouver, CA) Gallery Steven Cottingham (b. 1989, Canada) Wellness Centre Future Proof (Antwerp, BE) Artist-run organisation Wellness Center Future Proof (Katinka de Jonge & Liesje de Laet) (b. 1989, The Netherlands, b. 1988, Belgium) ––– JURY Federica Bueti, curator and co-founder/editor-in-chief at …ment, Journal for Contemporary Culture, Art and Politics (DE) Nicoletta Lambertucci, curator at The Box, Plymouth (UK) Pieternel Vermoortel, artistic director and lecturer at Netwerk, Aalst, Curatorial Programme FormContent, Curatorial Studies KASK, Ghent (BE) Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk, curator and writer at The Office for Curating (NL) Chaired by Pieter Vermeulen, co-founder at POPPOSITIONS, course director and lecturer at St Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp and freelance art critic and researcher, Antwerp (BE) ––– 7th edition POPPOSITIONS In Watermelon Sugar April 19–22, 2018 former Ateliers Coppens HOW TO FIND US former Ateliers Coppens Place du Nouveau Marché aux Grains 22-23 Nieuwe Graanmarkt - 1000 Brussels, Belgium PARKING Parking Dansaert Place du Nouveau Marché aux Grains 2 Nieuwe Graanmarkt Parking Lepage Rue Léon Lepage 23-31 Lepagestraat METRO De Brouckere (line 1 & 5) Sainte-Catherine / Sint-Katelijne (line 1 & 5) BUS Dansert (line 86, N°16, 126, 127, 128) TRAM Porte de Flandre / Vlaamse Port (line 51) VILLO Station n°32 - Dansaert Station n°3 - Porte de Flandre / Vlaamse Port Station n°4 - Jardin aux Fleurs / Bloemenhof VISITING HOURS Thursday 19 April 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday 20 April 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Saturday 21 April 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday 22 April 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm TICKETS Book your tickets now - Presale 4,9 € Entrance ticket - at the doors - 7 € Reduced price* - 5 € Free ** * Reduced price applies for + 67 years / - 26 years / students ** Free entrance for - 18 and unemployed
